General
Name/Nickname: Genna. Some people call me Switz, but mostly Genna
Age or Age Group: Well shit, I'll be thirty eight in April. I was something like seventeen when I started out on LJ. That's a lot of past
Country: US
Pronouns: she/her/hers

You
Do you have any hobbies?: Erm. I sing in the church choir (high church Episcopalian if you care). I take figure skating classes. I've been cross stitching since the first Covid lockdown. Other than that I read a lot and generally fail at gardening.
Do you have any interests, that wouldn't fall under a hobby?: ...probably?
Any dislikes?: Raw onions. Cumin. The US healthcare system.
Are you into fandom?: No. I like a lot of fandom things but not to the extent of actually... fandoming about them
What does your day to day look like?: I don't... do you really want me to tell you what I do every day? Like, get up at 6, tea with the cats, go to work kind of thing? Not really, right? I work in a real estate law firm. I have a spouse that I like most of the time but with vastly different political beliefs so not all of the time. I have a friend who had a stroke so I've been spending a lot of time hanging out with him in the memory care unit of a local nursing home (more fun than it sounds).

Entertainment
What do you like to watch?: I'm not picky. I'll try just about anything and will keep with it if it's done well. Right now I'm really enjoying Infinity Train, Arcane, Peacemaker Raising Dion, In the Dark, Evil and Taskmaster, among other things. Spouse is more the TV guy than I am, so I often just watch whatever he puts on.
What movies do you enjoy?: So hey, do you ever just go completely blank when people ask questions like this? Like you have literally never seen a movie before in your life and then later you suddenly remember all of the things that you SHOULD have said? Yeah. Me too.
Do you play games? If so, what do you like?: I... like... Dragon Age? And Supernatural (the FB VR punching thing). Also water balloon fights. Spouse does not play games, so I'm kinda out of luck for anything that requires more than one person.
If you like to read, what do you read?: I will read literally anything if you provide me with a free copy of it. I tend naturally towards science fiction, and I know what I like when I read it, but there's a lot of good and bad in any genre.
What kind of music do you listen to?: Literally all the music.

Journal & Friending
What do you post about?: Day to day life. Internal musings.
How often do you update?: 1-3 times a week at the moment.
What do you look for in a DW friend?: Oh, you know, that je ne sais quoi of strong connection, but, failing that, someone who reads regularly and posts regularly and comments on occasion so I know they're still there and actually give a damn. That said, there have been friends I'm pretty sure never read my journal but who are so interesting, I don't actually care. Others are faithful and helpful commenters even if they never post.
What do you like to read about on your friends page?: Day to day life, internal musings.
Do you have any kind of friending policy?: No? I don't think so.
Do you have any deal-breakers?: I get enough conservative claptrap in my home situation. I'm also not going to stick around if someone's content consistently makes me feel bad (this is also kinda wibbly in that I can't define it easily, but if there are ongoing themes that are triggery or even just "you keep doing that same thing over and over and then complaining about getting the same results" kind of thing, I might wander off?) Also I guess picking fights or consistently nitpicking or criticizing my life or something, though I can't remember the last time that happens. Case by case basis though, you know?
Is there anything others should know before friending?: Despite what I said above about repeating things, I am married to a conservative guy despite being very liberal myself and I will complain about it on occasion, but I don't really want people to dogpile on him.

Anything else? I've just realized that I've done all of the html wrong in this thing and I'm too tired to go back and fix it. Also for the record, I'm just consistently terrible at friendzy questionnaires so, sorry.

Edit: Never mind. The entirely bolded thing was too annoying so I fixed it.

I was 21 when I started my journal and I'll be 38 this year so I share the feeling. I wish I had something more coherent to say other than...just from the way you've written this, I think we might get on. My intro is here. Friends?

From liking fandom things but not being into fandom to enjoying Taskmaster and having partners with different political views to ourselves, I feel like we have quite some things in common. I have granted you access to my journal, so feel free to check it out. I have an introduction post stickied at the top.

Hello!

I have only recently discovered TaskMaster - so I am always charmed when someone else mentions it :D

We seem to have shared interested - I have added you!

My little brother shouted about it for MONTHS and I finally begrudgingly watched and episode and laughed so hard my stomach hurt.

Works for me!

Hi there! I must say, I had quite an enjoyable time reading this, and therefore would like to think I would probably enjoy reading your actual journal entries as well. Would you like to give being friends on here a go? Here are my oh so imperfect questionnaire answers on this frenzy: https://friending-memes.dreamwidth.org/1083.html?thread=136763#cmt136763. My mind just went completely blank on the damn html, though =/

Woo! I'm an alto, what're you?

Also alto! We do a lot of Bach (historic performance practice, so hardcore!) and some modern stuff as well.

We don't actually do all that much Bach but, then, we're a church choir (are you a church choir?) and I don't get the impression he wrote a lot of just general anthems and motets. We do a ton of Palestrina, Victoria, Lotte and just general fancy Anglican music stuff, though less fancy now that our choir's been decimated (because of fear, not because of death) by Covid.

Yay altos!

I love Palestrina so very much! We'd probably be considered semi-professional? Mostly volunteers, but with professional soloists. Some of the volunteers in the past have been church organists, high school music teachers, etc.. but I am not one of those, I just did church choir and then college/grad school choirs. We have several lawyers, oddly. We've had two different conductors who also served as choirmaster for a really high Anglican church downtown ("bells and smells," I'm told), so I've done some of that repertoire, too.

We've been both rehearsing and performing masked, and we have a vaccination requirement. It's not ideal, but vastly better than not singing at all, imo. Unfortunately, our big New Year's Eve concert was cancelled because of the omicron surge. If all goes well, we're going to start Bach's Easter Oratorio on April 4.

Palestrina basically sings itself. Ours is the same, with one or two paid section leaders and the rest volunteers (but since we've only got like three people to a voice part if we're lucky at the moment, that's still a good chunk of the choir paid. We've currently got two engineers (actually maybe three? I'm not sure), a science teacher, two music teachers, a college professor and a lawyer (and a paralegal, that's me). I don't think we have a vaccine requirement, but we're all currently doing everything masked, but we've only been back for a month or so.

And yeah, we're smells and bells Anglican.

I've grown to love Anglican church music, but my favorite is early music up through the Baroque. The first time I heard early music (in high school) I was "where have you been all my life?!"

I think we would get along, your icon drew my attention right away! I comment and post, I don't like getting into political arguments (I am left wing) and you sound very caring for being with your friend at the nursing home.

I have just made dw my only journal after being on LJ since 2002 at age 22 (I am now 41) and was crossposting from DW to LJ since 2018.

Welcome to the off-brand LJ!

My icon is supposedly Marilyn Monroe before she was.

I figured it was a very young pre-Marilyn. Some Like it Hot is my favourite movie.
