Yay for another Leslie! I don't often find other Leslie's too!

I would start with one of those beginner kits they sell at craft stores like JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby. There's also on youtube people have what's called Flosstube channels. There are a lot of tutorials on there for different kinds of stitches.
