Name/Nickname: xnera :p
Age or Age Group: late 40s
Country: United States
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
Hobbies and Interests
What are your current interests and/or hobbies?: Knitting, Crochet, sometimes pin loom weaving, playing video games, very occasionally reading books
Do you participate in these hobbies or interests daily? : Video games daily! I play Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy Brave Exvius on a daily basis. I usually knit or crochet several times a week, and often enough it's daily but not always.
Is your hobby or interest your job? Would you like it into a job?: I sell some of my patterns on Ravelry, but I barely make any money at it. I stream myself playing video games on Twitch three times a week but have yet to make affiliate, and doubt I will. I have considered taking craft commissions, and this year am actively investigating selling at craft fairs, but it will never be a full-time job.
If applicable, what's your greatest achievement/creation from a hobby or interest?: Oh! I'm very pleased with my Aerith Doll Clothes because it took some trial and error to get the lace hem to stop flipping up, but I did it
Are there any hobbies you'd like to get into?: Weaving, on inkle looms or a table loom, but (a) I need more money, (b) I need more space. Also, I'd really lie to get back into reading fiction on a more consistent basis.
If you're into collecting something, what is it?: I collect floating pens, also sometimes known as tilt pens: those pens that have a small scene in their barrels that when you tilt them, a piece of the scene moves. I have over 50 of them, but they are packed away so I have lost count of exactly how many I have.
Do you have a "main" hobby or interest, one that you participate in more than others?: Hmm, no? I'm pretty equal with my video gaming and crafting. Both take up significant portions of my time and mean a lot to me.
Do you want more friends that participate in a specific hobby or interest? If so, what is it?: I wouldn't mind getting to know other Twitch streamers
Is there anything about your hobby or interest that annoys you?: I have anxiety, and it can interfere with my video gaming, especially since I play an MMORPG where you sometimes have to play with others. It's annoying when the anxiety rears its head. As for the crafting: annoying that I have just one room in my house where I have to have ALL my stuff, and thus my room is cramped with both unfinished and finished items.
Do you participate in your hobby or interest for fun or relaxation? Both?:
And lastly, do you prefer to participate in your hobby/interest alone or with someone? Mostly alone, even with the MMO I tend to play alone when I can, but I don't mind playing with others! I am always up for talking about gaming, or crafting, and in fact for the latter I'm captain of a crafting team on Ravelry, which is great fun!
General Journaling
How often do you post?: Several times a week.
Do you post about your interest or hobby? If not, what do you post about?: Yes, I do! I make a monthly Crafting Update post, and often talk about my video games in my posts. But I also post a lot about regular life stuff, especially living with aging parents and dealing with anxiety.
What do you like to read about on your friends page?: A mix of things. I am fine with reading about life updates, but it'd be super fun to read about others posting about their interests! Even if it's not an interest I do, it can be fascinating to read about someone writing passionately about their interests.
Do you post about fandom? If not, do you mind reading about it?: Very occasionally I write fanfic, and will write about it in my journal. I don't read much fanfic though, and most of my fandom interaction these days is linking things I saw on Twitter into a Discord group I'm in. I don't mind reading about fandom stuff but it's not what the only thing I'd want to read.
Do you have any deal-breakers?: -isms of any kind: racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, etc.

Knitting and crochet are both fun! I learned within a month of each other (took a crochet class at my park district, then a month later took a knitting class at my local yarn shop). You can make all sorts of things with both crafts, too - a lot of people prefer knitting for garments but there are some wonderful crochet designers these days making beautiful garments in that craft as well. If you do start, I recommend joining Ravelry - it's a site for knitters, crocheters, weavers and spinners. It's a great place to find patterns and get support in their forums.
FFXIV is... well... my heart. ♥ The story is absolutely fantastic and it has lots of lovable characters. If you're in North America, I recommend the Crystal data center. We're friendly there! I have characters on the following servers in Crystal:
Goblin server: Windy Storm (my main character)
Coeurl server: Althea Valara (my secondary character)
Mateus server: Taylan Eyal (my bunny boy and my current obsession)
Brynhildr server: Eirian Ari (my catboy, who doesn't see much action but I still love him)
All four servers are great! If you join Goblin I can introduce you to a fantastic, friendly Free Company (think guild) - but it's pretty large and might be overwhelming depending on your anxiety. Whatever server you end up on (if you decide to play!), I'd be glad to hang out with you. Currently, folks in the same data center can play together regardless of server (you just need to World Visit, which is FREE) but soon people from other data centers will be able to visit each other too!

Thank you for the rec! I will be checking it out soon. I have a knitting book but it's kind of vague and that first time that I tried, I couldn't quite figure it out. Normally I can pick up on things, but the book just didn't work.
You're very kind and I think it'd be fun to hang out sometime on FFXIV :D It may take me a bit to learn everything (MMOs sometimes can be overwhelming for me. But I will eventually learn an MMO) I play Destiny 2 with my husband on some days and it took a few months to learn things, but I eventually did. Elder Scrolls Online was the same too. Are there any monthly costs for FFXIV?

https://www.knittinghelp.com
There's two basic ways to knit, Continental and English. Both produce the same fabric but differ in which hand the working yarn is held in. I can knit both ways but am much more comfortable with Continental. KnittingHelp.com has videos for BOTH methods and I'd suggest trying both to see which is more comfortable for you.
FFXIV is very generous with the amount of help dialogs they give you when you're first starting out! I will admit the heads-up display can be overwhelming a bit, but you soon learn to tune most of it out (and it is VERY adjustable so you can move things around to where they make sense for you.)
It does have monthly fees, but I feel they're well worth it for how many hours I put into the game each month. Here's the page with the fees in US dollars:

I play on a PlayStation 4, and so when I started I bought the game outright. It came with a free month of playtime. I don't know if they still do this if you buy the game, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do.
HOWEVER, there is a VERY generous free trial for the game, which is detailed here:
https://freetrial.finalfantasyxiv.com/na/
Basically, it allows you to play all classes up to level 60, and through the base game and the first expansion, Heavensward. If you're at all unsure you might enjoy the game, then I recommend playing the free trial.
The free trial does have limitations to it, which is spelled out here:
https://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=5382&tag=freetrial
Two of the restrictions that are especially important: you can't send/receive tells (direct messages to another player), and cannot join a Free Company. We'd still be able to play together but it would require some planning ahead.
