The New Year Do you have any resolutions?: I don’t like to make resolutions, but I did think about my intentions for this year, and I really want to keep up with going to pilates and play guitar more regularly. Are there any new books, music, games, shows, etc. that you want to dive into?: I’m excited to start The Golden Enclaves by Naomi Novik and can’t wait for Alecto the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. I’m planning to start watching the new season of His Dark Materials. I can’t wait for the new series of Taskmaster! Are there any small or big events that you're planning for this year?: Hoping to get some travel plans firmed up in the near future... Any new interests/hobbies that you'd like to try out?: No, I’m pretty happy with my current interests and hobbies! Did you accomplish your resolutions from last year?: I didn’t make any, but I told myself to go to the dentist regularly and I accomplished that! What were your favorite memories from the past year?: Oh, I have so many! I went to Greece with some friends for two weeks. Some friends from out of town came to visit me for a weekend. I went to San Diego Comic-Con for the first time since 2019. I got to see my favorite musician, IAMX, several times. Do you have any new year's traditions?: I always watch Big Fat Quiz of the Year on New Year’s Eve and I’m always annoyed by Jonathan Ross. Is there anything you'd like to do more of in 2023?: I’d like to go to more concerts, go hiking more, maybe have some game nights at my home.
The New Friends What kind of friend(s) are you searching for?: I’m looking for people who post and comment pretty consistently and like to interact. What do you like to read about?: I like to read about people’s lives and what they think about things in their lives. I’m also happy to read people’s thoughts on books/movies/TV, etc. How often do you check your friends feed?: Pretty much every single day. Do you have any deal-breakers?: Homophobia, transphobia, racism. Rudeness/unkindness. Do you mind reading about fandom?: No, I don't mind at all! I’m a fandom person myself, although I don’t post about fandom extensively, other than posting about what I’ve been watching/reading sometimes. If so, what fandoms would you like to read about?: MCU, Doctor Who, various sci fi and fantasy books, Taskmaster... Haha, sometimes I feel like I forget my own interests when I have to answer questions like this.
Currently... Reading:The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice. Haven’t read it since I was like 13. Watching: Leah Remini’s Scientology and the Aftermath. Playing: Nothing currently. Meaning to play some more Hitman 3. Thinking about: Whether it’s still raining right now. It doesn’t rain a lot where I live but we’re getting a lot this week. Hobby/Interest: Reading. Planning for: Going ice skating this weekend, hopefully.
Ten years is a nice chunk of time to develop a skill. But still, producing something within a couple hours is impressive. By making it yourself, you get exactly what you want or at least can't blame anyone else about its construction if something's off. ;;w;;
Those embroidered skirts are gorgeous! I love the black-on-black one. Very chic. I was looking at Brother machines, actually. It's a name I recognize, at least, and they seem like a trustworthy brand. For my needs, I don't think I need one that works in a large frame. (I'm not that ambitious yet.)
I can't knit, either. I know how, in theory, but in practice it just...doesn't work. I'm also bad with counting and remembering, so I lose my place very easily and just take apart what I've done to redo it. Not very efficient.
I also find myself here when am supposed to be working... the things I do to procrastinate! :P I do love reading people's stories. :) Mind if I add you?
You sound interesting and would love to add you if you don't mind!
Italia was my first country outside my place of birth - that I remember and cherish fondly! (Moved to Rome when I was 12yo - dad's work took us there.) So, am always curious to live vicariously through folks who live there, are from there even today! :P *ahem* So that's part of the reason for adding but looking at your public posts, I think we'd get along.
We do the take a hike/walk on first day of the year as well! This year we drove 10 hours! *smack head* returned from visiting family-friends in another state! :) But we did do a few hikes while there - so that counts?
Outside Verona was the first time I experienced snow!!! <3 That's how I always remember the city. Sure, it was on the side of the highway with maybe 2 inches of snow (it was our school trip from Rome, to see the house of Romeo and Juliet!) - but my schoolmates & teachers and the driver were flabbergasted that I had never seen snow (born and raised in Southern India) - so driver stopped the bus on the side of the road so I could frolic in it! ha haha... Lived in Rome a few years when I was a teenager. It was my first country outside my country of birth and so it has a very special place in my heart - the people, the food and the place.
>> *raises a hand* I'm a freak! More a weirdo, actually, but yeah. <<
Pleased to meet you.
>> My journal is friends only though, I hope that's okay! <<
Do what works for you.
The reason I try not to read FO journals is because that promptly leads to me annoying everyone. The lock dingbat is so small I usually don't see it, which means I try to link to things that are locked. The only way to avoid that is for me to minimize having locked posts on my reading page. People use blogs for different purposes, and for me, it's a lot about networking, finding cool things and showing them to my audience. I have nothing against people locking their journals, they're just using them differently than I use mine.
You're welcome to read my blog if you find it interesting though.
I feel Italy is a wonderful place for vacationing, living in not so much. :D
So, really living vicariously through people who are there sounds like the smart choice to me. ;)

The New Year Do you have any resolutions?: Apple watch seems to think so... keep trying to get leaner, stronger, wiser, kinder Are there any new books, music, games, shows, etc. that you want to dive into?: I have a book backlog of stuff I'm supposed to have read already, haven't thought beyond that. Would like to see through the end of Atypical and The Kominsky Method (shows you how current I am with TV) and am intrigued by Letterkenny Problems. The first new Gaslight Anthem album in almost eight years is high on my can't-wait list. Are there any small or big events that you're planning for this year?: Traveling to Puerto Rico next month Any new interests/hobbies that you'd like to try out?: Supposed to try ziplining but that's not really a hobby. Finally picking up my late father-out-law's guitar. Otherwise back into playing the piano, accomplishing a muscle-up. Did you accomplish your resolutions from last year?: I think my only resolution from last year was "survive" so ... done! What were your favorite memories from the past year?: Decorating for Christmas with my folks and sister, the surprise Gaslight Anthem show at my favorite (very small) venue Do you have any new years traditions?: No, not really. Is there anything you'd like to do more of in 2023?: See more bands! (Went from 75 live shows in 2019 to... six in 2020 and still recovering), get my backyard deck project completed, spend more time outside.
The New Friends What kind of friend(s) are you searching for?: People who are looking for genuine connections vs. a fan base, who will comment and reply to comments in a way that suggest they are actually reading. What do you like to read about?: Your life, relationships with others, interests, daydreams. How often do you check your friends feed?: Every 1-2 days Do you have any deal-breakers?: I am a progressive/centrist, not interested in arguing about politics on here but if you have views that I will likely find intolerant we are probably not a good match. For reasons of discretion I will be more likely to engage with posts that are friends-locked. Do you mind reading about fandom?: In small doses If so, what fandoms would you like to read about?: I'm willing to learn about anything in theory, but I don't know or care much about most TV/movies/RPGs so I am not very likely to engage with posts about those things
