The New Year
Do you have any resolutions?: Not really. I'm kind of a weird one when it comes to resolutions. I more so like to call them goals instead because I feel that doesn't limit my time to accomplish a specific task. Having a yearly deadline is more stressful lol.

Are there any new books, music, games, shows, etc. that you want to dive into?: I'd like to read more, just in general. Some specific ones would be the few Dean Koontz books Hubby and I have. Also with music and games in general, I'd like to expand our shared playlist with more metal and synthwave. Elder Scrolls Online has been whispering in my ear to play it more so I will likely dive back into that world!

Are there any small or big events that you're planning for this year?: Not really. We need to continue to catch up and get on top of our finances (which have struggled this last year) so there's that.

Any new interests/hobbies that you'd like to try out?: I'd more so like to learn new things to sew and to make, such as jewelry. That's really been my only focus when it comes to creative hobbies. Writing has been on the backburner for a while, but I'd eventually like to read the "Writing Fiction for Dummies" that we own and apply what I learn from that!

Did you accomplish your resolutions from last year?: Honestly, I don't even remember if I made any goals at the beginning of last year lmao. (It's been a very rough year so my memory is very foggy)

What were your favorite memories from the past year?: While it was a rough year, I cherish all the snuggles from Hubby and my dog, Mister. One huge one that stands out though is from here recently when we were spending time with Mister. He was laying in my lap, enjoying all the loves I was giving him and then Hubby came over to us and sat down. Mister left my lap and plopped down in his, laying a paw on Hubby's belly. That's one of the sweetest things I'd every seen from Mister.

Do you have any new years traditions?: Not really. We used to watch the ball drop on TV, but otherwise, my family and I would just make snacks to enjoy for the evening.

Is there anything you'd like to do more of in 2023?: More snugs from Hubs is always a want and need lol. But overall, I just want to continue to enjoy life, even though I live with depression. I also want to sew a lot more too. I've been kind stagnant with my sewing, but I miss making things. Lastly, I want to save more money, even if it's just a bit at time, it's still better than nothing. I can think of many times this last year that a savings would have greatly helped.

What kind of friend(s) are you searching for?: I'm very open to friending those who I share commonalities with, but I'd love gaming and creative hobby friends! But to also add to this, I want to make friends to talk to and have an actual friendship with.

What do you like to read about?: What makes you, you! Also, creative projects, games you're playing, question memes, life happenings etc. I'm not picky. However, if you're posts are heavily into kinks, I'm not against friendship, but I just won't have much to say to it. (I'm very much of a "whatever makes you happy" kind of person. If it makes a person happy to do a certain thing, then I'm happy. I just may not have anything to say to it.)

How often do you check your friends feed?: Currently, it hasn't been a lot, but I'm going to be more active since life has calmed down a lot. Before the year go really rough for us, I'd usually check every other day.

Do you have any deal-breakers?: Trump Supporters, covid deniers, those who are heavily conservative, bigots, and racists. I keep my opinions to myself, but I just won't get along with those things listed. Mine and Hubby's motto in life is just don't be a dick to others. Life is hard for many and you never know what the people around you are going through.

Do you mind reading about fandom?: I like to read about fandom. My only thing is if I'm not into a specific fandom, I may not have much to say to it. I still like to read about it though!

If so, what fandoms would you like to read about?: I'd love more Animal Crossing (and Pikmin) friends! I religiously play New Horizons and Pocket Camp so it would be fun to read about and enjoy that with friends. Hubby and I play that alot, as well as Pikmin Bloom.

Reading: I don't remember the last time I had extra time to read :c
Watching: Mainly youtube now days. Various youtubers, such as Linus Tech Tips and ChilledChaos, among the many we watch.
Playing: Alot. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Pikmin Bloom, Pokemon Go, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and heavily modded Skyrim lol.
Thinking about: Side jobs to do to help our income.

I'd like to say I wanna get super into toy collecting again, but I'm stuck in a tiny apartment that barely has enough room for me and what I already have... though most of it is stored away. can't display shit. So many...I'd like to finish the book series I currently have on the go (Temeraire, the Aubreyad, A Natural History of Dragons), re-read others (The History of Middle-earth comes to mind), and have a long, long stand-alone to-read list (first off the ranks will be Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, I think)!

After that I might read A Brave New World since I just read 1984. I read them both years ago, but they both seem relevant to this world's current climate. It's also a nice reminder that things have always been fucked up. Things just feel worse now... which brings me back to that whole thing above about finding more things to be happy about. Dwelling on the negative isn't good for the mind or the world.

Some international things are very easy to cook in big batches, like rice or dal (legume) dishes. One way to encourage kids to try different foods is to offer a staple item, like rice, along with different things they can put on it, like chili or dal. But that depends on the serving situation. You can always just go with sheetpan cornbread.

Are there any small or big events that you're planning for this year?: Not at the moment. I haven't been out of the state since the pandemic began so I would love to travel at some point, but I haven't even begun to think about making plans.
Any new interests/hobbies that you'd like to try out?: Only expanding on some current ones - I'd like to really become better at cooking

Do you have any resolutions?: Nothing specific, only to do well this year.
Are there any new books, music, games, shows, etc. that you want to dive into?: I just wrote a journal excerpt, but I'm planning on reading more disability literature this year. I don't really have anything else in mind, so I'll go along with the flow.
Are there any small or big events that you're planning for this year?: Currently planning the Lunar New Year celebration at my university. In the beginning stages of planning the university's Cherry Blossom festival. I thought I would graduate in 2023, but I think I may have to postpone to 2024, which I'm very disappointed in.
Any new interests/hobbies that you'd like to try out?: Not exactly new, but I'm looking forward to getting back in baking again this year. I bought a KitchenAid mixer at long last!
What were your favorite memories from the past year?: 2022 was kinda rough, but I won a few awards, which I was very happy about. I also got an internship in a field I never thought I would be able to get in, so I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn more.
Do you have any new years traditions?: I don't really celebrate New Year, but I do celebrate Lunar New Year as a Chinese American person.
Is there anything you'd like to do more of in 2023?: A friend invited me to rock climb (in a gym) two months ago, and I would like to continue rock climbing this year.

What do you like to read about?: I usually love to read fantasy/science fiction, but in the last couple years or so, I've been expanding my horizons to other genres, such as memoirs, historical, romance, and more. I'm of the opinion that as long as it's a good story, I'll enjoy it regardless. My only exception is horror.

Also, kudos to you for playing the koto (I used to be part of an orchestra in which somebody played the koto sometimes, it sounds so lovely!!). Do you have any resolutions?: I don't make resolutions, but I set myself some goals. Might sound the same, but to me there is a lot less pressure involved there - a goal can be partially reached and it still counts for something. If that makes any sense. Anyway, mine are:
- read 75 books
- on a related note, read more books by/about PoC
- be more patient/gentle with myself and others
- be more conscious of the way I use social media
- continue saving up for my dream of travelling to Newfoundland
- make it through the year as well as possible

Are there any new books, music, games, shows, etc. that you want to dive into?: Nothing in particular, I will see if there are any books/music/shows/movies come around that appeal to me. One book that comes to mind that I want to finally get around to reading is "Go Tell The Bees That I Am Home", the 9th book in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. This will be its own project I think, as it's over 1,100 pages in the German version o_O

I am also looking forward to the 2nd season of "Son of a Critch" and new episodes of "This Hour Has 22 Minutes".
Are there any small or big events that you're planning for this year?: Going on vacation to Ireland in summer, which will also be my first time on a plane (I know!) and seeing a stand-up comedian called Till Reiners on October 8th are two things that come to mind.
Any new interests/hobbies that you'd like to try out?: Not that I can think of - I just want to stay with my current hobbies (esp. adult colouring books and jigsaw puzzles). I might go back into making collages and I want to go swimming more often.

Mine were pretty much the same as this year and I did for the most part. I even read 90 books instead of the 50 I had planned, which is why I am making my goal 75 this year ;)
What were your favorite memories from the past year?: Definitely meeting the singer Alan Doyle in person on November 2nd! He was so nice and kind, took a picture with me and even gave me a kiss on the cheek ♥
Do you have any new years traditions?: Not really. I usually just chill with my cat and watch TV.

What kind of friend(s) are you searching for?: Kind, empathic, understanding friends with a sense of humour. You should be able to understand that, although I've come a long way over the past few years, I do deal with a couple of mental illnesses and thus I can feel down on myself and not every entry will be sunshine and puppies. I might also get overwhelmed by life sometimes and not comment/read as much but I try my best.
What do you like to read about?: People's daily lives, thoughts etc.; I just love getting a glimpse into others' goings-on and what their world is like. I also enjoy seeing pictures :)
How often do you check your friends feed?: I try to do so at least once a week, and I always reply to comments on my entries so my friends see I am not ignoring them.
Do you have any deal-breakers?: Well, the usual bigotry - but I don't think anyone would see themselves as bigoted, right? So I'll just say I am very left wing and while I don't want an echo-chamber, I also don't want drama or huge discussion on my journal, so it would be good if we had similar political and social views. There is a bit about that on my user-info if you'd like to check if we fit in that aspect.

Also, be accepting of mental illness, please. It is okay if you don't understand something and ask questions but discrimination or willful ignorance is not needed. This includes using words like "r*t*ard*d" to describe people.
Do you mind reading about fandom?: Not at all, unless that's all of your journal's content. Even if I don't share a fandom, I enjoy seeing people be excited about something and I might even find something I would like to check out myself.
