The New Year Do you have any resolutions?: To not buy anything non-consumable (food is okay) this January. It’s time to read the books, watch the shows, and play the games I already have! Are there any new books, music, games, shows, etc. that you want to dive into?: I am very much looking forward to the bona fide release of Baldur’s Gate 3 this year (Please, please, please let it happen). Also, the new seasons of Dragon Prince, Our Flag Means Death, and Sandman, whenever they're released. Are there any small or big events that you're planning for this year?: I hope to travel more now that the world is inching back to normal. Any new interests/hobbies that you'd like to try out?: I am starting back up with the Great Highland Bagpipes, which I haven’t played since childhood. Did you accomplish your resolutions from last year?: Yes, moreso than I would have said before I took an actual tally. I wrote about that here. What were your favorite memories from the past year?: Meeting all the new additions to my family that I couldn’t see in person during the worst of the pandemic. Seeing The Hu, Mogwai, Policia, Russian Circles and a bunch of other bands perform live. Do you have any new years traditions?: I get to open and start using my new planner/journal for the year. Is there anything you'd like to do more of in 2023?: So many things! Writing more fanfic, reading and reviewing more books, and finding new media and fandoms to fall in love with are at the top of the list.
The New Friends What kind of friend(s) are you searching for?: Anyone with interesting or creative interests and enthusiasm for the things they love. What do you like to read about?: Everything. I’m an omnivorous reader. I tend particularly towards fantasy and nonfiction history, but if it’s good, I’ll read it whatever the genre. How often do you check your friends feed?: Weekly at a bare minimum. Do you have any deal-breakers?: Don’t be intolerant and terrible to others. Believe in science. That’s really what it boils down to. Do you mind reading about fandom?: I love reading about fandom. If so, what fandoms would you like to read about?: I’m a diehard fan of fantasy and scifi novels, games, and TV/films, as well as anime, manga, K-dramas, and JRPGs. I’m currently circling the C-novel black hole.
Currently... Reading: I just wrapped up my annual Lord of the Rings reread. Watching: Catching up on MCU offerings (I’m currently wrapping up Ms. Marvel) and rewatching Adventure Time. Playing: Tabletop RPG, particularly D&D 5e. I’m currently in six campaigns: two homebrew, two Spelljammer, Saltmarsh, and Wilds Beyond The Witchlight Thinking about: Getting something to eat. Hobby/Interest: Irish traditional music, foreign languages, gardening, and Tarot are biggies. Planning for: Nothing as yet—the year is still young!
