The New Year Do you have any resolutions?: I don't make resolutions, but I set myself some goals. Might sound the same, but to me there is a lot less pressure involved there - a goal can be partially reached and it still counts for something. If that makes any sense. Anyway, mine are: - read 75 books - on a related note, read more books by/about PoC - be more patient/gentle with myself and others - be more conscious of the way I use social media - continue saving up for my dream of travelling to Newfoundland - make it through the year as well as possible
Are there any new books, music, games, shows, etc. that you want to dive into?: Nothing in particular, I will see if there are any books/music/shows/movies come around that appeal to me. One book that comes to mind that I want to finally get around to reading is "Go Tell The Bees That I Am Home", the 9th book in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. This will be its own project I think, as it's over 1,100 pages in the German version o_O
I am also looking forward to the 2nd season of "Son of a Critch" and new episodes of "This Hour Has 22 Minutes". Are there any small or big events that you're planning for this year?: Going on vacation to Ireland in summer, which will also be my first time on a plane (I know!) and seeing a stand-up comedian called Till Reiners on October 8th are two things that come to mind. Any new interests/hobbies that you'd like to try out?: Not that I can think of - I just want to stay with my current hobbies (esp. adult colouring books and jigsaw puzzles). I might go back into making collages and I want to go swimming more often. Did you accomplish your resolutions from last year?: (If not, that's okay. Just skip this one) Mine were pretty much the same as this year and I did for the most part. I even read 90 books instead of the 50 I had planned, which is why I am making my goal 75 this year ;) What were your favorite memories from the past year?: Definitely meeting the singer Alan Doyle in person on November 2nd! He was so nice and kind, took a picture with me and even gave me a kiss on the cheek ♥ Do you have any new years traditions?: Not really. I usually just chill with my cat and watch TV. Is there anything you'd like to do more of in 2023?: Swimming, as I mentioned above.
The New Friends What kind of friend(s) are you searching for?: Kind, empathic, understanding friends with a sense of humour. You should be able to understand that, although I've come a long way over the past few years, I do deal with a couple of mental illnesses and thus I can feel down on myself and not every entry will be sunshine and puppies. I might also get overwhelmed by life sometimes and not comment/read as much but I try my best. What do you like to read about?: People's daily lives, thoughts etc.; I just love getting a glimpse into others' goings-on and what their world is like. I also enjoy seeing pictures :) How often do you check your friends feed?: I try to do so at least once a week, and I always reply to comments on my entries so my friends see I am not ignoring them. Do you have any deal-breakers?: Well, the usual bigotry - but I don't think anyone would see themselves as bigoted, right? So I'll just say I am very left wing and while I don't want an echo-chamber, I also don't want drama or huge discussion on my journal, so it would be good if we had similar political and social views. There is a bit about that on my user-info if you'd like to check if we fit in that aspect.
Also, be accepting of mental illness, please. It is okay if you don't understand something and ask questions but discrimination or willful ignorance is not needed. This includes using words like "r*t*ard*d" to describe people. Do you mind reading about fandom?: Not at all, unless that's all of your journal's content. Even if I don't share a fandom, I enjoy seeing people be excited about something and I might even find something I would like to check out myself. If so, what fandoms would you like to read about?: Nothing specific.
Currently... Reading: "The Adventures Of Isabel - An Epitome Apartments Mystery" by Candas Jane Dorsey (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/52557004-the-adventures-of-isabel). Watching: Nothing in particular. I just finished "Wednesday" (which I found brilliant) and am excited for "Son Of A Critch" as said above. I am not a huge TV watcher, tbh, although I've starting watching more over the past year. I can't really keep as many shows going at once as many people seem to. Playing: The only thing I play is a silly little phone game called "Farm Heroes" :) Thinking about: How I am excited to see if I can find some new people on here :) Hobby/Interest: My usual ones (reading, jigsaw puzzles, colouring, learning languages...). Planning for: Nothing much.

Hello, I think we have a decent amount in common! I enjoy Outlander and reading in general and actually manage a book club (though in a given year I can only read 20-30 books). I'm an American living in Norway but I also spent 1.5 years in southern Germany near Mainz and Sinsheim, and I speak decent German still. We are a similar age. We have added each other, but I am curious, what caused you to have an interest in Newfoundland? I see that you are watching some TV shows about Newfoundland and like some of the music too.
I got interested in it through a band called Derina Harvey Band - two of their songs were on a random Spotify playlist somebody recommended to me. I checked out more of their songs and read that a lot of them were actually influenced by Newfoundland culture since the band is from there. So I decided to read up about it and got fascinated with the culture, history and the island in general.
