The Basics Name: Linda Age: 38 Pronouns: she/her Country: Finland
The New Year Do you have any resolutions?: Not really. If I make any, I forget them before I can ever get to try to fulfilling them. Oh, but I would like to cut down even more on alcohol. I'm not a big drinker and in no means have any problems with drinking, but I'd love to be as close to sober as possible. Just trying to live as healthy as possible! Get my diet in order, too etc. Are there any new books, music, games, shows, etc. that you want to dive into?: I really want to read more. I've always loved books, but I'm such a slow reader with difficulties to concentrate (hello ADHD) and lots of other things on my plate. I loved reading The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart by Holly Ringland last year, though, so I'm definitely planning to read her second novel this year! I would also love to catch up on a lot of series and movies that my partner isn't interested in, but I rarely have the chance to watch anything on my own. Are there any small or big events that you're planning for this year?: Just looking forward to meeting my niece (due next week!) and seeing more of my nephew as well as the rest of my family. Any new interests/hobbies that you'd like to try out?: I'm often thinking about trying out some other crafts than knitting, but that's my go-to. Did you accomplish your resolutions from last year?: (If not, that's okay. Just skip this one) I don't think I made any. An ongoing resolution is to just keep going, stay afloat, so yeah I accomplished that. What were your favorite memories from the past year?: Nothing special, just staying up late in summer and well, summer in general. Do you have any new years traditions?: I usually want to stay up to watch fireworks, even though I'm more and more against fireworks. Is there anything you'd like to do more of in 2023?: Ah, I already mentioned earlier that I want to read more! I also tend to struggle with taking photos if there's nothing in particular to photograph, but looking back, I'm always glad over even those mundane shots.
The New Friends What kind of friend(s) are you searching for?: Open-minded people who post fairly often and share stuff about them and their life. I don't really have many friends IRL so I love getting to know people all over the world. Always a plus if you post photos, but it's understandable if you don't (I'm just a very visual person and love to see how people look like and where they live and all that.) What do you like to read about?: Personal stuff, not necessarily anything private (if I post something TMI or such, I put it behind a cut. I like to be open and honest) but anything from the daily life. I often feel like I complain a lot but my journal is my favorite place to vent, and expect nothing less from anyone else. How often do you check your friends feed?: Pretty much every day on weekdays (while I'm at work, haha) but if I have the chance, I may check in on weekends as well. Do you have any deal-breakers?: The usual (right-wing, racist, homophobes etc.) but also very religious people. I don't mind if you share about your practices or what you believe in, but people who think that their views are the only right ones really turn me off. Do you mind reading about fandom?: No, but I tend to skip them. I'm more interested in real life stuff. If so, what fandoms would you like to read about?: -
Currently... Reading: Uhh, I do have a library book waiting but I haven't had the time to start on it before I'll have to return it, or at least renew the loan... Watching: We just started watching Newsroom with my partner as there's nothing else really. While working, (and I have the time) I love to watch knitting podcasts on YouTube. Playing: The Sims 4 Thinking about: I should make myself a cup of tea! Have been thinking about that for an hour already, but yeah...Hello ADHD. Hobby/Interest: Always knitting! Occasionally photography and whatnot. Thanks to (or because of) ADHD I may be very interested in something random all of a sudden, but it may wane equally fast. For the past years I've been more or less into: coloring (adult coloring books and watercolors), plants (like indoor greens but why not gardening as well), going out for walks (with my DSLR), languages, science... Planning for: Nothing big! I prefer to take every day at a time and can't really even make bigger plans.
Hello! We seem to have some common interests and a similar approach to DW, plus we have quite a few friends in common and your name often pops up! Mind if I add you?
Hi! I'm also an avid reader and would love reading more about Finland as I spent a few months studying in Helsinki many moons ago. Would you like to be friends?
Hi :) I have ADHD too and there are a few other things where I think we might connect! Here is some more stuff about myself, if you are interested: https://dadi.dreamwidth.org/3135174.html It would be nice to get to know each other, maybe! Let me know if I can add you, please.
Hi Linda! My name is Katie. We have some things in common- I am sober (off my drug of choice) and I am trying to cut back on drinking as well. I also LOVE photography and I have a DSLR myself that I am trying to get more training in!
Hello you! I feel the same about reading blogs with pics, why I post pic dump entries quite regularly :) and I do love seeing them in other journals too! I think we could get along really well, I'm late to the party, so my entry is faaar back :)
I also find myself here when am supposed to be working... the things I do to procrastinate! :P I do love reading people's stories. :) Mind if I add you?
>> Oh, but I would like to cut down even more on alcohol. <<
Consider alternative celebratory beverages. There are some very fancy sodas available, including "dry" ones that are barely or not sweet. Among my favorites is muscadine grape juice, though, which really is sweet.
I'm quite fond of bitters for cooking, but they're originally intended for mixed drinks. While there are nonalcoholic ones (e.g. in a glycerine) base, most use alcohol as a carrier for the flavors. Vena's Fizz House makes splendid ones.
My mother was very fond of homemade V8 juice. Much like a Bloody Mary, less the liquor.
>>Get my diet in order, too etc.<<
My partner and I like reading cookbooks together, then picking out new recipes to try. If you start with a healthy cookbook, you'll discover more such recipes. Today's find was just me looking online for something to do with overripe bananas; I found this recipe for Banana Bread Brownies. It is much healthier than average, because the bananas cut the refined sugars about in half -- and it tastes a lot like chocolate bread pudding.
>>I also tend to struggle with taking photos if there's nothing in particular to photograph, but looking back, I'm always glad over even those mundane shots.<<
1) In looking through family photos after my mother's death, it wasn't the "important" events I valued most. It was the pictures inside our homes, or around the yard, that remind me how things looked years ago.
2) Consider making still life compositions with objects meaningful to you. Here's a list of still-life art items that would work well in photography too. Fun idea: take some pocket money and a box, then hit your local antique stores, thrift stores, rummage sales, etc. for interesting items. When you get tired of shooting those, swap with other photographer or artist friends.

I post daily about a wide variety of topics, and occasionally post photographs, mostly of my yard.

It sounds like we have some interests in common. Feel free to drop by my blog and see if you like it.
Hello! We have some mutual friends and I also mostly post about my general life, usually with at least two photos per post (I love seeing peoples' lives too!). Mutuals? :)
