I always am fascinated about folks living out on rural land and sometimes there envy, but mostly just admiration because something I don't think I could do. :) And am sure you hear that often - for that I apologise. Would love to add.

Friends? I live on a much smaller "homestead" and would love to work toward more self-sufficiency (not really doing much with it at the moment but did pre-kid).

Sure! ^_^ My first homestead was 1.5 acres (much of which was unusable for reasons) so this has been a big jump!

I'm definitely adding you. I'm into all those fibrous fun things and also my husband is from the UK. It's fascinating to see the differences between the two countries.

Sorry you have covid. I am also an American mother to British children in the UK. I live in a village near London though, having recently moved here from London. I find you living in a forest smallholding really interesting! Add?

Ah, we were in central-ish London until the end of 2020! We had decided we wanted to either be in London or outside of London’s shadow, so we went to the Forest of Dean where we had fond holiday memories. We accidentally ended up part of the Great Urban Exodus - we’d been planning our move before the pandemic hit, but got delayed/postponed because of it and we ended up leaving when it became trendy. Oh well!

We were also part of the great urban exodus, we moved in October 2021! We had been thinking about moving for years as we were in a flat in Earlsfield (zone 3) and quickly running out of space. Thankfully we had a little garden during lockdowns, but it is so nice to have space! We are still in London's shadow but that's ok as it's only 30 minutes to Waterloo from here.

So we both ended up being trendy and moving out, oh well, that's fine. :D

We were in Wapping - technically Zone 2, but 1 stop from Zone 1. We also had a tiny tiny garden (about the footprint of a compact car) during Lockdown, which was a lifesaver with the Enting. Most of our neighbors didn’t even have that!

Now we have 10 acres and a much, much bigger house—for less than we sold our Wapping (terrace) house for 😂

Oh wow, that's amazing you got 10 acres for less than in Wapping! Even tiny gardens were a life saver back in lockdown!
