The New Year
Do you have any resolutions?: My main intent for the year is to more quickly get back on track when life inevitably derails. I really lost my grip last year when bad things happened. Are there any new books, music, games, shows, etc. that you want to dive into?: I want to read more flash fiction and short stories, and play more games (all types)--but nothing specific. Are there any small or big events that you're planning for this year?: We're hopefully getting a puppy early this spring. In theory I have a business trip to Jakarta later this year (the date keeps moving). Planting in the new terraces we're putting into the sunny part of the property. Any new interests/hobbies that you'd like to try out?: Mostly I want to get back to the things I was doing last year before I detailed (see "resolution" and "interests/hobbies"). I'm always writing but this year I want to focus on flash fiction and interactive fiction in particular. Did you accomplish your resolutions from last year?: See above. What were your favorite memories from the past year?: Visiting my old friends in Seattle, my son's godfather's wedding in Yorkshire, getting chickens, getting made a permanent employee/promoted at my studio, my son's 4th birthday party (his first real one because of Covid), my son starting school, making geeky friends in our new village, going to Paris, going to London, going to my first games conference as a professional. Do you have any new years traditions?: Fall asleep before the fireworks start! I'm just not a late night kind of person. I'm quite happy to wake to a new year rather than staying up for it. Is there anything you'd like to do more of in 2023?: Write new stories, garden, hike, crafts (spinning, knitting, embroidery, etc.), games... basically the things that bring me joy that derailed last year and I stopped doing.
The New Friends What kind of friend(s) are you searching for?: Creative/crafty sorts and gardeners are keen, but I like most people. What do you like to read about?: Everyday life, what you've made/grown, etc. How often do you check your friends feed?: I check daily most of the time, but I don't comment on every post. Do you have any deal-breakers?: Don't be a jerk. Don't be a weird rando. Do you mind reading about fandom?: I like reading about media people have enjoyed, but I'm not particularly into fanfic and such. If so, what fandoms would you like to read about?: N/A
Currently... Reading:Hyperfocus by Chris Bailey, the Saga graphic novel series. Watching:Dark Matter, about to start The Good Place. Playing: Various mobile games of the match-3 and story variety, some hidden object, some other random things. Partner and I want to play more console and PC games together this year. We have the boardgame Folklore: The Affliction out on the table ready to start. We have finally have an ongoing mythic Europe table top RPG going with people we've met in our village (we moved during the 2020 lockdown so building a social life has taken time). Thinking about: How to use my writing team in the best way possible to meet our production goals (work). Hobby/Interest: Writing stories, gamedev/narrative design, knitting, spinning, embroidery, cross stitch, hiking, chicken-keeping, gardening, foraging, gaming (all kinds)... Planning for: Getting a puppy. A flood of visitors coming through in the next week or two. Getting everything back on track after a round of Covid over the Christmas holiday through everything off again. Writing stories. What craft projects I want to start with this year....
Adding you again because I did in the past and it seems like we have lots in common but I don't know that I was granted access? You can just ignore this if you did that on purpose. ;)
You sound interesting and type of person whose journal I'd enjoy. Your intention for the new year struck me because basically that's what I'm aiming for with my own goals this year, my own life did go off the rails a bit in 2022 due to my own mental health issues (and in 2021 too, tbh) and I need to learn to cope better when that happens and possibly prevent it from happening it again.
My intro is here, have a look, and if you think you think we could get along I'll add you.
I think the key for me to remember this year is that things are going to happen, and I'm going to get derailed during them, but the quicker I remember to get back to doing the habits/practices that keep me on track, the quicker I'll be on my way again. I think a lot of last year going completely off the rails was that by the time whatever initial chaos had subsided, I didn't get back into those helpful habits/practices. I just... kept drifting.
Hi! I like to cross-stitch and craft and got more into gardening during the pandemic. We also have some mutuals in common. Would you like to be friends?

At least, that's the theory :)

That sounds like a smart plan and one I should try and put into practice too when derailment inevitably happens. Thanks for the reminder.
Yeah, theory is easier than practice but zeroing in on that is always the first step to success, isn't it? :)
